Leakey was one of the 20th century’s great anthropologists and a tireless promoter of science education and public outreach. During Dr. Leakey’s travels to the United States in the 1960s to lecture and raise money for his research, he met a group of enthusiastic individuals who were curious about human origins and evolution. Inspired by Dr. Leakey and his notions, they began a collective to further a multidisciplinary approach to human origins research. In 1968, they established The Leakey Foundation to aid Louis and Mary Leakey’s fieldwork as well as the groundbreaking research of younger scientists like Dian Fossey, Don Johanson, Jane Goodall, and Birute Galdikas. In the first ten (10) of its existence, The Leakey Foundation provided funding to many of the seminal studies that add to our understanding of human prehistory. Presently, the Leakey Foundation continues to help the significant studies of researchers like Frederick Grine, Sileshi Semaw, Dan Lieberman, Jill Pruetz, Zeresenay Alemseged, and many more. Many of the current prominent human origins researchers began with a grant award from The Leakey Foundation.In this article, we are going to systematically outline the right way to apply for the Leakey Foundation Francis H. Eligible Nationalities and Benefits
Applicants shall demonstrate a commitment to a career in their field of study with an emphasis on research and teaching in his/her country of origin following the completion of his/her degree.Students or researchers of African heritage who are citizens of Kenya, Ethiopia or Eritrea who (a) Are pursuing a doctoral degree at an accredited university, preferably from, but not limited to, an institution located in sub-Saharan Africa orDuring his time working in Ethiopia and Kenya, Frank Brown became an expert in not only the geology but also the plant life of the Omo-Turkana basin. He studied several languages, including Kiswahili, Kikamba, Kikuyu, and Turkana. He also sponsored the education of many university students from Ethiopia and Kenya.
